I loves me some Pretenders. This 1980 jam is a tune I like. Maybe it’s the driving drum beat, Chrissie Hynde’s unmistakeable voice or je ne sais quoi.
Black Crows & Jimmy Page – Shape of Things
The Black Crows are bad ass. Jimmy Page (Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin, etc) is pretty bad ass. Together they made Shape of Things a tune I like.
Radio Head – Exit Music (For A Film)
There are a few really good perfect albums out there. OK Computer is one. Exit Music (For A Film) is a tune I like.
Steely Dan – Aja
For a band named after a “revolutionary” steam-powered dildo you can’t knock this tune. Steve Gadd’s mind melting solos at 4:42 and 6:56 are what make this song transcendent and a tune I like.
Mastodon – Oblivion
Metal that sounds weirdly different than metal is metal I like. Mastodon wander into prog rock territory with this tune I like.
Lizzo – Water Me
This Tune is intense. Lizzo is a velvet kick in the face. Now just listen, please.
Grimes – Genesis
Grimes is a very talented, yet bizarre, musician. I have no understanding as to what this tune touches in my head but I like it. PS Brooke Candy’s performance in the video upstages everyone, even the snake.
The Dig – Home
The Dig is so totally my jam. They journey all over the musical landscape and this tune is no exception. Home is a thoughtful, oddly melancholy, hopeful tune that makes the hair on my neck stand up. Yeah. I have neck hair.
Casino Music – Viol af 015
Sung entirely in French, this Tune I like tells the story of a guy in an airport and his desire of a beautiful woman. I don’t speak French so it could also be about renting a car, I don’t know.
The Weeknd – Blinding Lights
Synthwave is the resurgence of 80’s electronic cheesy movie soundtrack music made cool. Blinding Lights could have been used in the original 80’s TV smash hit Miami Vice. It makes me feel 15 again. So what if I’m old?
